Amid rumours of the AIADMK joining the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Dairy Development Minister KT Rajenthra Bhalaji on Friday indicated an alliance with the saffron party for the upcoming local body polls.

For the first time, a minister in the Edappadi K Palaniswami has openly talked about an alliance with the BJP. "What is wrong in forming an alliance with BJP? Modi is trying to make India a super power. He has not done anything wrong. AIADMK has had alliances with BJP twice for Parliamentary elections. Both AIADMK and DMK have had alliances with the BJP," he told reporters when asked if AIADMK would form an alliance with the BJP in near future.

He added senior leaders of the party, Chief Minister, and Deputy Chief Minister will take a decision on this matter. A few days ago, the Madras High Court ordered the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission to conduct the local body elections by November 17.

A senior AIADMK leader said that no decision was taken on the alliance so far. "We are now focused on the September 12 party general council meeting and to retrieve the party's electoral symbol," the leader said, adding that the decision on alliance would be taken at the time of the elections.

Despite the differences in the two AIADMK camps, they united in its pledging support to NDA President and Vice President Candidates. The two factions headed by Palaniswami and rebel leader O Panneerselvam reunited on August 21 while sidelining party general secretary VK Sasikala and her nephew and deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran.

With the BJP is playing an active role in the AIADMK's internal power struggle, Tamil Nadu's ruling party forming an alliance with the BJP, which has little presence in the state, is always on the cards.

First sign

KT Rajenthra Bhalaji is the first minister in the EPS government to openly talk about forming an alliance with the BJP.
Howeverm the decision will be taken by the party before the local body polls.
