An FIR was lodged on Thursday against a Trinamool Congress leader for allegedly assaulting a sub- inspector inside a police station in Birbhum district.

"An FIR was lodged against Sudipta Ghosh, Birbhum district president of TMC and ten others for assaulting Samim Khan, a sub-inspector of Bolpur police station," Surya Prasad Yadav, SDPO, Bolpur said. Samim, in his complaint, said that at around 12.30 am, Ghosh and a group of people visited the police station in connection with some dispute in their locality.

"They raided the police station and misbehaved with the duty officer. They abused, threatened and assaulted him," Yadav said quoting the FIR. However, Ghosh denied the charges, saying that some angry people waiting outside the police station created chaos while he was speaking with the police officer.

"I did not threat or abuse the officer," he said.
