West Bengal hands over land for AIIMS-like hospital to Centre for free

The West Bengal government on Wednesday handed over 179.82 acres of land here free of cost to the Central Government for construction of an AIIMS-like super-speciality hospital.

"While the government valuation of the land is over Rs 57.30 crore, the state handed over the land free of cost to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare," said Avijit Bhattacharjee ADM (L&LR) of Nadia district said. Registration of the land located at Bashantapur under Kalyani police station area in Nadia district, about 1.5 km away from NH-34 took place on Wednesday. 

Under Secretary, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Bikramjit Chowdhury, Assistant Secretary, state Department of Health, Munmun Das accompanied by Bhattacharjee visited the spot this morning.
The state Government had sanctioned the land for the hospital on May 29 this year, Bhattacharjee said.

"Tender for construction of boundary wall has already been floated by Centre. After completion of all formalities, we expect the work of the boundary wall to start in January or February. The DPR for the facility is also under process." he added.
