West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi sent out a stern message to Jadavpur University students on Thursday. Tripathi warned students that if they do not accept the certificate through postal services, the certificate will carry a boycott stamp.

“The students, who will boycott the convocation, will receive their certificates at home, through postal services. If they do not accept it, then the certificate will carry a boycott stamp,” said Tripathi, who is also the Chancellor of Jadavpur University.  He also warned students that if students disrupt the convocation proceeding, which is to be held on December 24, then, law will take its own course.

“If anyone creates obstacle during the convocation, law will take its own course,” Tripathi added.  Earlier, JU authorities, especially the Vice Chancellor, Abhijit Chakrabarti, wanted to shift the convocation venue outside the campus.

After facing flak from students and teachers over police atrocities on students on September 17, Chakrabarti had written to the state education minister Partha Chatterjee seeking his permission to arrange the venue. But, the Governor ruled out this option and asked the VC to hold the convocation within the campus.  “I have told the Vice Chancellor of the Jadavpur University to hold the convocation within the campus and if anyone wants to boycott it, it is his decision,” Tripathi had said earlier.
