West Bengal elections 2016: Ahead of phase five, 14 crude bombs recovered from Kolkata's Chetla

There is less than 24 hours to go before four constituencies, Bhawanipur, Rashbehari, Ballygunge and Kolkata Port go to polls on Saturday.

As many as 14 crude bombs were recovered from a local club in Chetla, which falls under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s constituency that is scheduled to go to polls on Saturday. 

Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police (South Division) Murlidhar Sharma rushed to the spot. Sniffer dogs have been deployed at the spot to carry out a search operation to find the presence of other crude bombs or explosives of any kind. Meanwhile, the recovered bombs were diffused. 

Earlier in the day, 10 crude bombs were recovered from yet another club under Tiljala police station limits. The crude bombs were found behind Yadav Samaj Club. 

With less than 24 hours to go before four constituencies, Bhawanipur, Rashbehari, Ballygunge and Kolkata Port, go to polls, Kolkata Police has undertaken massive search drives across the city. 

“Acting on a tip off we received from a person who had called on 100, we carried out a raid at this club, where we found 10 bombs. Bomb disposal squad and sniffer dogs are at the spot,” said a senior police official. 

On the other hand, Central Forces have been deployed at the spot to maintain the law and order situation.
