West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's official Twitter handle got trolled on Wednesday after reacting to a film allegedly made on her life. While she maintained it was not a biopic and that she might file defamation against those 'spreading lies', netizens had a field day raking up all issues, right from her paintings to chit fund scams.

The trailer of the film 'Baghini: Bengal Tigress' showed a woman, dressed in a white cotton saree and hawai slippers (typically like Mamata) giving out speeches like a firebrand leader. It had attracted a lot of criticism from BJP and CPM leaders saying if the biopic on PM Modi can be stopped from being released in view of elections, the film on Mamata should also be stopped. The EC is likely to instruct the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal and his team to view the film before giving it a go-ahead. At present, the trailer of the film has been asked to be pulled down from the internet.

Mamata's tweet, posted at 11.59 pm on Tuesday, read: "What is all this nonsense being spread! I have nothing at all to do with any biopic. If some young people have collected stories & expressed themselves, that's up to them. Not related to us. I am not Narendra Modi. Please do not compel me to file for defamation by spreading lies". The tweet till 7 pm on the day received 291 retweets, 1,467 likes and 149 comments.

Twitteratis posted several comments comparing Mamata and Modi. One 'Angry Young Woman' wrote: "May be you had nothing to do even with the sham of a painting too, that sold for crores? Don't know why genuine artists didn't feel compelled to file for defamation for such crap being called art !! You are not & you shall never be even the dust on #Modi's shoes !!"

Another, Shyamol Banerjee 'Chowkidaar' said the biopic of Mamata had already been aired on TV, a serial called 'Nagin', while another Tapas Kumar Ghosal, asked, 'Do you have anything to do with conferring you highest academic award by University of Calcutta, just asking'.

Amidst the hullabaloo, makers of the film, 'Baghini: Bengal Tigress' are now apprehensive about its scheduled release on May 3. "The film is not a biopic of Mamata but has definitely been inspired by her life. It is a story about the struggles of a girl from her early childhood and how her character of questioning answers had taken her to politics and how she rose in that field to the top. We have not tried to demean any political party. Now we don't know if it can be released on May 3," director of the film Nehal Dutta told DNA.

Writer-producer of the film Pinky Paul said the film had been scheduled to release on May 3 but there had been some protests. "Some political parties have demanded the film to be stalled but we have not got any intimation from the EC," he said.

Asked about the attire and mannerisms of the central character Indira Banerjee, Paul said, "It is true that I have written the character getting inspired by Mamata Banerjee but it is also true that if the story is about a common woman, she will wear flipflops and a cotton saree. Do you think it would have been apt to dress her up in fancy clothes?"

Sources at the CEO WB told DNA that they would view the film and prepare a report if the Election Commission of India instructed them to but so far there had been no such instruction.
