A day after TMC MP Srinjoy Bose was arrested by CBI for his alleged connection in the Saradha scam, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee has decided to go on the offensive against the Central government.

With the perception increasing that the noose is gradually tightening around the top layer of TMC leaders in connection with the massive chitfund scam, the Bengal CM was her usual combative and aggressive self during a party programme at Netaji Indore stadium.

She alleged that Tumpai (Srinjoy Bose) was arrested because she attended a function celebrating the birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru where Narendra Modi was significantly not invited. Alleging vendetta, Mamata said that she would attend secular front meetings a thousand times and would not be coerced by the Centre or CBI.

Raising the pitch, West Bengal CM said that they would retaliate if they are hit. She also accused CBI of behaving like a puppet of the Centre and being biased in their probe. In this context, she referred to SC's observation from the past that CBI acted as a caged parrot. "Who is currently running the CBI? Amit Shah or Narendra Modi?" she asked. BJP is desperate to pass bills in the Rajya Sabha and the absence of even a few TMC members would benefit them, she alleged.

She also indirectly took on Narendra Modi, accusing that those who are ruling the country have many cases against them but no action has being taken against them. Accusing the media of being a sell out, she said that during elections, 90% of the media worked for the saffron party. Trying to put the ball in BJP's court, Mamata Banerjee accused that a lot of riots have happened in the country in the last six months. Riot gurus have replaced religious gurus, she said. Although most are silent, not everyone can be cowed down, she added.

According to the Bengal CM, chit funds worth Rs 45 thousand crores are operating from New Delhi but there are no steps against them. Trying to drive home the point that they were the first to arrest people in the Saradha scam, she said that CBI is just launching a politically motivated move, and are not interested in giving back money. She also challenged the Centre to impose President's rule in West Bengal.
