West Bengal: Class 10 boy arrested for smuggling Rs 3 crore heroin

A high school boy was arrested from Lalgola in Murshidabad district for smuggling three kg heroin worth Rs three crore in the market.

Ismail Sheikh, a student of class 10th in M M Academy of Lalgola, was caught while smuggling the contraband in a baby food packet across the border to Rajshahi in Bangladesh on Wednesday night, Murshidabad Superintendent of Police Humayun Kabir said. One another person was also arrested along with Ismail, he said.

The heroin was probably procured from Uttar Pradesh or Andhra Pradesh, he added. Lalgola, which is on the border with Bangladesh, was earlier a hub for the manufacture of the contraband but sustained police efforts over a period of time has put an end to it.

The two arrested were produced before a local court yesterday which remanded them to police custody for 14 days.
