The prime accused in child trafficking case, Chandana Chakraborty, who had been arrested by the CID today alleged that she had been the pawn in the hands of BJP leaders. “I am innocent and BJP Mahila Morcha leader Juhi Chowdhury had been the one who had promised that all the problems at my homes would be solved once there is intervention of BJP leaders,” she said today. Chakraborty added that Chowdhury might have also talked to BJP leader and party Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly and party national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya to help her.

CID sources also said that Chakraborty had also confessed that together with Chowdhury they were supposed to go to Delhi and meet Union Women and Child Development minister Maneka Gandhi. It was also found out that Chowdhury had assured Chakraborty of a donation of Rs 22.5 lakh from the Centre and said that she would be taking half of the amount sanctioned as commission.

BJP leaders, however, brushed aside all allegations. State BJP president Dilip Ghosh said that it was one of the ploys of the ruling dispensation to harass BJP workers.

Senior leader Kailash Vijayvargiya too said he had know idea of the goings-on. “I might have met Juhi once at the state party office. I don’t know anything more than that,” he said. Referring to the CID he said, “There is no such thing as the CID. They are all acting as the TMC cadre, planning stories to frame BJP leaders.” Talking to DNA, Ganguly sent out a stern warning to the state police and saying that the state government was engineering all these allegations. “They have implicated a number of BJP workers but this time have picked up a wrong person. My name was name once mentioned by our honourable CM in the Rose Valley case. I moved court on charges of defamation. Now if CID tries to malign me, I will not spare any of them. I will drag all of them to court,” she said.

She added that it was a meant to intimidate them. “Who is Chandana? An accused. Authority are trying to use her statement to intimidate us so that we refrain from helping people who come to us for help but I want to make it clear that one bad element comes to us pretending to need help and frames one of our leaders would not mean that I will stop helping the hundreds of others who genuinely need help,” she said talking to DNA.
