As West Bengal got drubbed at the Supreme Court regarding the non-compliance of linking phone number with Aadhaar, officials of National Population Register (NPR) said that 100 per cent generation of Aadhaar for the population over 18 years has been done.

“We are not bothered about what is going on at the political front. We are only carrying out our duty as instructed. Although we are lagging behind in the generation of Aadhaar for population under 18 years of age, where we have covered about 65 per cent, Aadhaar generation for the above-18 population group has been achieved for 100 per cent,” said a senior NPR official, talking to DNA.

He said that with advanced software being used at present, the work was being completed almost free from all technical glitches. “There is no rejection now by the system which initially used to take up a lot of time,” he added.

The political battle, however continues with TMC supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday cautiously saying, “We have the highest respect for the court order and will abide by it. The order says that individuals can move court against the order and I have heard that some persons have already filed individual cases against it."

MLA Mahua Moitra who was in Delhi on Monday filed a case against linking Aadhar with bank account. “I have done it in my individual capacity. When the bank account was opened the RBI guidelines said that for fulfilling KYC norms one would need to submit any one of the six officially valid documents and Aadhaar was one of those, not the only one. Again, we are being threatened that our bank accounts would be frozen if we didn’t link our bank accounts with Aadhaar. Why would that be so?” she told DNA.

State BJP president Dilip Ghosh said that Mamata was using the state coffers for her profit. “It has been passed at the parliament and has been okayed by a court judgement. One may move court but Mamata is trying to politicise everything for her political gain, at the expense of the state exchequer,” he said.
