A few hours after a major blast at a firecracker factory in Brahman bar village of Pingla at West Midnapore district on Wednesday night, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ordered a CID probe into the case.
 
With two days to go for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Kolkata visit, the state administration was quick to react. A special team comprising CID officers will be reaching the spot on Thursday itself and investigate the matter.
 
As many as 11 people were killed and seven injured in the blast, and the death toll is likely to rise with the rescue operation is progress.
 
According to sources in the district police, the site was an illegal firecracker factory allegedly run by Ranjan Maity, who is a Trinamool Congress supporter. Maity, who was absconding immediately after the incident, was later held by the police.

Villagers claim that crude bombs were made at the factory and the total death toll is close to 15. Houses nearby were damaged in the incident and the area is strewn debris.

A huge police force has been rushed to the spot to determine the nature of the blast and investigate the matter. Sleuths are not ruling out a possibility of any connection with terrorist outfits at the moment and are exploring all the angles of the blast case.
