After lashing out at the Opposition Congress in Lok Sabha during his speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued the onslaught in Rajya Sabha too, saying we want Mahatma's India and Congress wants 'Gandhis' India'.

Speaking on motion of thanks to President's address in Rajya Sabha, Modi again attacked Congress and said, While criticising BJP, you start criticising India. While attacking Modi, you start to attack India. (BJP ki burai karte karte aap Bharat ki burai karne lag jaata hain. Modi par hamla bolte bolte aap Hindustan par hamla bolne lag jaate hain)

Stating that he fails to understand why some people feel bad when India improves its ease of business rankings, Modi said, "We want Mahatma Gandhi's India. Even the Congress wants 'Gandhi's India.' - the India of the Emergency, Bofors, Chopper scams. When a big tree falls......remember these lines...is this the India Congress wants."

The Prime Minister also said that the government is always looking for suggestions, feedback, and input on the schemes, "Let us work together in providing the poor quality and affordable healthcare."

"You call us name changers....we are aim changers  - we work hard and have ushered in a paradigm shift in the working of the government. Innovative projects are being thought about and completed in a time-bound manner," Modi said.

"I have always said that for the nation's development so far, all the previous governments' have made a contribution," Modi added.

Earlier in the day,  Modi attacked the Congress in Lok Sabha saying the country has been suffering due to the "wrong" policies it has pursued since independence and that the party has spent time singing paeans to one family instead of focusing on people's welfare.

"When we speak about creating new states, we remember the manner in which Atal Bihari Vajpayee created Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. He showed how far sighted decision-making is done," the prime minister said amidst protests by Congress members who shouted slogans seeking justice for Andhra Pradesh.

However, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi needs to answer the country on questions posed to him on the Rafale deal, farmers and jobs instead of making allegations in Parliament.

He seems to have forgotten that he is the prime minister not an opposition leader, Gandhi told reporters after Modi's reply in the Lok Sabha to the motion of thanks on the president's address.

"Questions are being asked by the country from the prime minister, but he is not answering... here (in Parliament) you have to give answers and not ask questions to the country instead," he said.
