Stating that there was no mud-slinging between the BJP and Shiv Sena during electioneering for the Kalyan-Dombivli municipal corporation (KDMC) elections, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said the alliance partners would be fighting the elections to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) together.

The chief minister was addressing news persons after releasing 'Maharashtra Ahead', a special issue brought out by the directorate general of information and public relations (DGIPR), highlighting achievements of his government during the first year in office.

Skirting questions on the war of words with Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in the run-up to the KDMC polls, the chief minister said: "I was not provoked or angry, it was a very composed public address." He further said, "neither was any mud thrown at me nor did I throw any mud on others."

Uddhav had said it's time Sena displays its claws and stop supporting an 'arrogant' partner, to which Fadnavis retorted saying BJP won't succumb to such threats. When reporters recalled the same, Fadnavis said Sena and BJP were in alliance for the last 25 years and would continue to work together. He said the government would complete its term and the next anniversary also will be celebrated with Sena as partner.

When reporters pointed out to Thackeray's threat of withdrawing support, Fadnavis said, "I have not heard anything of that sort."

Stating that one year was not enough to evaluate a government, Fadnavis said he has brought in transparency and speed in the functioning of the government. He singled out Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan as the most important achievement of his government, which resulted in creation of additional 24 TMC water storage capacity in the state. He claimed that his government has achieved what the Congress-NCP coalition could not bring in during its 15-year tenure.

Vidarbha statehood issue before Centre
On the question on creating separate Vidarbha state, the chief minister said the BJP was always in favour of creating smaller states for better growth. Pointing out that the issue is before the Union government, he said Shiv Sena and BJP have different opinions on the issue with Sena favouring 'united Maharashtra' and BJP smaller states.

2.30 lakh houses for tribals, scheme for SCs
Fadnavis said the government would launch a scheme for providing housing to 2.30 lakh homeless tribals in the state. He said 25,000 houses will be constructed every year for the benefit of tribals, while land as well as finance of Rs 2 lakh will be granted for those belonging to scheduled castes for constructing houses.
