Union minister of state for parliamentary affairs and minority affairs and senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Thursday underlined the need for affirmative action to uplift the minorities in the country.

Speaking to dna, Naqvi said he agreed with Vice-President Hamid Ansari's comments on the plight of the minorities. “We agree with Ansariji's comment. He didn’t say anything about the BJP government. He merely remarked how welfare of the Muslim community had been ignored since independence and that Muslims were treated as mere vote bank. We will take affirmative action to set the things right,” Naqvi said.

On four-day meat ban in Mumbai during Paryushan, Naqvi said the decision might have been taken keeping the sentiments of the Jain community in mind. This issue should not be dragged too much.

“You must adopt good things and leave bad things behind,” he said.

The minister claimed that in Bihar elections, the contest is between GDP and ABC. GDP, he said, stands for good governance, development and progress while ABC means anarchy, bankruptcy and corruption.

“Of course, GDP will win and BJP will form the government,” Naqvi said.
