In a shocking incident, HIndu students of Mewat Model Public School in Haryana have claimed that they were forced to read namaz and those who didn’t were beaten up by teachers. Three teachers in the school also coerced them to convert to Islam, telling them that ‘Hinduism was bad and Islam was good’.

Initially, school's sinister design was not known by the parents of students. When a chold told his parents, they didn’t believe him until they saw him reading the Quran at home. One of the students said that that he was staying at the hostel in 2014, and he left the school in 2015, unable to tolerate this behaviour. After the incident came to light, the District Magistrate suspended two teachers while the third teacher was transferred. Meanwhile, Haryana government has said that administrative investigation of the incident in Mewat is underway.

Reacting to the incident, BJP MP Anurag Thakur said that while India has given birth to many religions, it’s wrong for anyone anywhere to ask someone to convert forcefully to any religion. Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary stated that it was wrong if anyone from a different religion was forced to either offer namaz or participate in Saraswati Puja, and the state government should take action.
