'Beer Yoga', an event where one practises yoga while drinking beer was organised at city-based dining restaurant in Baner area, but it had to be cancelled at the last minute after members of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) took umbrage and created a ruckus.

The publicity of 'Beer Yoga' event, which was scheduled on Saturday, was being promoted on social media in the last few days. The post was being circulated to attract beer lovers but caught the eye of MNS workers.

Prashant Kanojia, the newly-appointed district president of MNS student wing told DNA, "We came to know that the restaurant was planning the event of 'Beer Yoga' in Baner where the participants would be served beer and they would perform yoga while consuming it."

"It the city where Yoga Guru BKS Iyengar spread the knowledge of Yoga. Now in the same city, some restaurant was trying to use yoga for its publicity and that too by offering beer which is an insult to the service of Iyengar. Therefore, we decided to object to the entire event," Kanojia said.

The event was scheduled from 10.30 am till 3 pm but before the event could start, the MNS workers reached the venue and created a ruckus. They threatened the restaurant staff of dire consequences if they went ahead with the event.

"We asked the restaurant staffers to immediately cancel the event which they obeyed instantly. Later they also apologised for organising the event," Kanojia said.

Meanwhile, the police team of Chatuhshrungi police station had also reached the spot anticipating a ruckus by MNS workers. Assistant commissioner of police (Chatuhshrungi division) said, "The restaurant management only took a call of cancelling the event. We had sent our team to make sure that the situation does not go out of hand. However, the issue of law and order did not arise." DNA tried to contact the management of the restaurant but even after repeated attempts, no one was available for comments.

Before this incident, MNS workers had created ruckus at multiplex on Senapati Bapat road where they had thrashed the multiplex staff to object high pricing of food items being sold at the multiplex.
