Amid ongoing row over cow vigilantism, a man was beaten up by locals in Nagpur's Bharsingi area on suspicion of carrying beef.

The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday.

Four people have been detained in connection with the case, news agency ANI reported.

The incidents of cow vigilantism are taking place even thought Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a strong message said that killing people in name of Gau Bhakti was not acceptable.

 

In June, Junaid was stabbed to death and his cousins were thrashed in a train by a mob which accused them of carrying beef while they were returning home to Khandawli village after shopping for Eid in Delhi.

In Jharkhand, a man of Beria Hatiatand village in Jharkhand's Giridih district was thrashed and a part of his house was set ablaze by a mob after a dead cow was reportedly found outside his house.

Three months ago, Haryana's dairy farmer Pehlu Khan succumbed to injuries after he was attacked by a cow protection group and a mob lynched two men in Assam's Nagaon district suspecting them to be cattle thieves.
