Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday broke down while speaking about demonitisation after laying foundation stone of Mopa greenfield airport in Goa.

"I was not born to sit on a chair of high office. Whatever I had, my family, my home...I left it for the nation," said Modi as he got emotional.

Stating that the demonetisation was a major step to fight black money and corruption, Modi said, "People had asked me to fight graft. The people have chosen a government and they expect so much from it. In 2014 so many people voted to free the nation from corruption."

The Prime Minister also took a dig at previous governments and said they neglected this (blackmoney) issue. "Did I hide anything? We took a key step to help honest citizen to defeat the menace of graft. We will take action against 'benami' property. This is major step to eradicate graft, black money," he said.

"If any money that was looted in India and has left Indian shores, it is our duty to find out about it," Modi added.

He also highlighted that for the first time Rs 67,000 crore black money deposited under amnesty scheme and total of Rs 1,25,000 crore has been deposited in government exchequer.

The Prime Minister also said that if he commit any mistake, he is ready to face any punishment the country will give him. "I promise to deliver a corruption-free India. This suffering is for 50 days; After leanliness, not even a mosquito can fly. People in 2G scam have to stand in queue for Rs 4000."
