Arputhammal, the mother of AG Perarivalan, one of the convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi Assassination case, breaks into tears as she speaks about her son's arrival home on Thursday after 27 years in prison, and appealed to his permanent release. She also expressed her wish to get her son married.

"He was only a 19-year-old boy when the police took him (on June 11, 1991). He was kept locked in the prison until Thursday. It is a surprise. But we will be much happier if he is released permanently," she said outside her house "Perarivalan Illam (House)" at KK Thangavel Street in Jolarpet in Vellore district.

"He told me that he could not find the way to home when he was brought from Vellore prison in the police vehicle. He felt the whole town has changed a lot in 27 years with new buildings coming up," she said. Last night, she said that nobody in her family slept as they were kept talking and recalling the past. "He wanted to see the things he was using like his cycle and guitar," she said.

Arputhammal who has been waging a long battle to secure his son's release said that as a mother, she wanted to get her son married. "He has lost his youth in the prison. My two daughters are married and are leading a happy life. But I will be happy to see my son get married and lead a normal life," she said, adding that in the one month time, it would be very difficult to arrange a marriage. "He had in the past asked us not to arrange for marriage. I am doing this on my own."
