After announcing his decision to launch a political party and field candidate in all the 234 assembly seats in the next election, actor Rajinikanth on Tuesday said that he wanted to create a political revolution in Tamil Nadu, which has historically been a place of major political change.

"Tamil Nadu is a historical place from where many major political events have begun including Mahatma Gandhiji discarding his attire and opting for only a loin cloth. I want to create a political revolution here. It has to happen and we all have a responsibility. If the change happens now, future generations will live better," the actor told the media here. The actor said that he needs the support of the media for his political revolution.

Calling himself as a media-shy, he said that he has just entered the politics where he has to regularly interact with the media. "I am still not sure how to handle the media," he said, adding that he would address a press conference after the works on party name, flag and its policies are completed. He also recalled that he had worked as a proofreader in a Kannada newspaper for two months after he failed in the SSLC examination.

As his announcement of ushering in "spiritual" politics was interpreted by some as communal politics, Rajinikanth clarified that what he meant by spiritual politics was politics based on truthfulness and honesty devoid of caste, creed and religion.

A day after the launch of the online membership drive through the newly launched portal and mobile app, Rajinikanth's portal has reportedly received one million hits and more than three lakh registration in a day.

NAME NOT DECIDED

  • Rajinikanth, who is set to launch a political outfit ahead of next assembly polls in Tamil Nadu, declined to specify when he will announce the name and symbol of his proposed party.

  • “I myself do not know,” was his terse reply when questioned by reporters.

  • Asked if he will meet the people, he said in due course it will be made known. “At one go, I cannot tell you everything,” he said.
