In a bid to crackdown on Left-wing extremism (LWE), chief minister Devendra Fadnavis sought a crackdown on frontal organisations and Naxal sympathisers including those in academia.

Fadnavis attended a meeting of Naxalism affected states on combating LWE chaired by union home minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Monday. Fadnavis said it was decided to plan a 'Samadhan' doctrine including development, defence and counter-strategies and mooted the need for better connectivity and technology to fight Naxalism.

In Maharashtra, Gadchiroli and parts of Chandrapur and Gondia are part of the Naxal corridor. Fadnavis sought measures to combat Naxalism not just in Gadchiroli and Sukma but also at the level of their sympathisers and frontal organisations.

Fadnavis sought two central armed police force battalions to handle a mining site in Gadchiroli and the transport corridor's security for a two-year period from September 2017
