The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is all set to revive the Kranti Yatra. The walk, as the name suggests, will introduce participants to homes of freedom fighters who lived in the city and were part of the country’s struggle for independence. Meanwhile, Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO), Ahmedabad Chapter, also plans to start a walk covering important temples in city.

Kranti Yatra was earlier launched by chief minister Narendra Modi on October 2, 2007. Former speaker of Gujarat Assembly and MLA from Khadia, late Ashok Bhatt, had taken keen interest in the launch of the walk. However, the project didn’t take off.

Now, the civic body plans to start the project. The Kranti Yatra will start from Panchkuva Darwaja from freedom fighter Umakant Kadia’s home and will end at the residence of Anandshankar Dhruv. The entire route is around two km long.

“The budget for the walk has already been allocated and we are waiting for an occasion for the launch. Before that, a multi-media presentation about the walk needs to be prepared. We will also need an office. But, these things won’t take time,” said PK Vasudevan Nayar, deputy general manager of Heritage Project of AMC.

Kranti Yatra will cover residences of freedom fighters like Umakant Kadia, Sir Chinubhai Baronet, Krupashankar Pandit, Surendra Medh along with famous buildings such as ‘Bomb’ Factory, Veni Shankar’s Haveli, New Gujarati Shala and United Bangla Home.

Meanwhile, JITO is also planning a walk connecting important temples of the city. The process for identification of and research on Jain temples and spots to be covered by the walk is going on. “We want to give proper information about city’s Jain temples, so we don’t want to start the walk in a hurry,” said an official of JITO, Ahmedabad Chapter.
