Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh will face action for levelling false charges against Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the Vyapam scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has informed the Supreme Court.

Upping the ante on the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government, Digvijaya Singh had approached the Supreme Court in 2015, seeking CBI investigation into the case under apex court monitoring.

According to a Times of India report, the CBI informed the apex court that action would be taken against Singh for running a high-pitched campaign against Chouhan based on falsehood and forged documents.

The seized documents, hard disk and the pen drive given by the Vyapam 'whistleblower' Prashant Pandey were sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Hyderabad for scrutiny and the report suggested no tampering, the CBI informed the court.

The agency also said that it had reached the conclusion that the tampering allegations were false and some people making such allegations were found to be indulging in the creation of false digital records.

The CBI was responding to a petition by Pandey, in its affidavit through advocate R Balasubramanian.

Digvijaya Singh had filed a writ petition before the Supreme Court making similar allegations and the plea in Pandey's petition and Singh's petition are almost identical, the CBI said.

Pandey had provided several documents regarding the Vyapam scam, which is about the widespread racket in recruitment and professional courses entrance tests conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board.

Meanwhile, the Congress leader took to Twitter and said that the action was most welcome. "I shall continue my fight against Corruption and for all those who have been duped by Shivraj/ BJP leaders and brokers," he tweeted.

The VYAPAM (Vyavasayik Pariksha Mandal (also called Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board) scam was in the headlines first, for the alleged involvement of big names like the ex-governor Ram Naresha Yadav and current Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and now, for the 42 mysterious deaths of those who were either accused or suspects in the case.
