Referring to the same, CPI said the court's comment about the Governor are "severe" and urged Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to sack him.
Expressing satisfaction over Supreme Court's order transferring probe into the Vyapam scam to CBI, the Communist Party of India (CPI) today demanded "immediate" removal of Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav in this connection.
The apex court, while directing CBI to probe all cases of the scam and alleged deaths of persons related to it, also issued notices to Centre and the state on a plea seeking Yadav's removal for his alleged involvement in the scandal. The court also issued a notice to the Governor as well.
Referring to the same, CPI said the court's comment about the Governor are "severe" and urged Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to sack him.
"The CPI expresses its satisfaction over the SC verdict transferring the Vyapam case to CBI. The comment of SC about the Governor is very severe. An accused in a case of corruption coupled with crime and mysterious deaths cannot occupy a constitutional post. He should not also be allowed to enjoy any immunity. The party urges upon the Union Home Minister to act immediately and sack the Governor," CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said in a statement.
The party reiterated state Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also to step down as his refusal to transfer the case to the apex court resulted in loss of valuable time towards identifying and punishing the guilty along with mysterious deaths of key witnesses.
"Hence the CPI demands resignation of Chouhan on moral responsibility. His ego and failure to provide security to the innocent exposes his miserable failure as a Chief Minister.
His resignation will definitely help an impartial enquiry," Reddy said.
Party's national secretary D Raja seconded Reddy on Chouhan's resignation saying somebody should own up "moral responsibility" for the "mysterious" and "suspicious" deaths. Raja said the party hopes that SC continues to monitor the case "as it deserves to be monitored".
"We hope SC continues to monitor the case as it deserved to be monitored. Such a scam has never been witnessed as the number of mysterious and suspicious deaths of witnesses, accused and journalists covering the issue have taken place. Somebody should own up moral responsibility. And therefore, the Chief Minister must also quit," he insisted.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) informed the Left parties along with other opposition outfits have called for a state-wide strike in Madhya Pradesh on July 16 to press for Chouhan's resignation, which it said is required for a fair and impartial investigation into the matter.
"Further, it is essential Chouhan steps down from Chief Ministership so that a fair and impartial investigation can be conducted. His conduct in office has not inspired confidence that this can be done while he is in office. "The Left parties and other opposition parties have called for a state-wide hartal to press this demand," former CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat said in the editorial of forthcoming issue of party mouthpiece People's Democracy.
