Madhya Pradesh governor Ram Naresh Yadav's son Shailesh was found dead under mysterious circumstances here on Wednesday at the official residence of the veteran Congress leader. His name had figured in the multi-crore Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam better known as the Vyapam scam.

Sources said Shailesh, aged around 50, was seriously diabetic and hypertensive. He was reportedly absconding from Madhya Pradesh to avoid arrest in the scam and had been hiding in the house allotted to Ram Naresh Yadav in his capacity as former chief minister of UP. The Madhya Pradesh unit of Congress has demanded a CBI probe into Shailesh's death.

Shailesh's body was found lying on the floor of this house situated in the tony Mall Avenue locality.

Though family sources said Shailesh died due to brain haemorrhage, police have begun investigation into the case. The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem, and an official spokesman told reporters that the state government had ordered an inquiry into the circumstances leading to his death.

MP-based contacts told dna that the senior Yadav, who is also under the scanner in the multi-crore scam, is admitted to a hospital in Bhopal. Reports said his condition had worsened after he got to know of Shailesh's death.
A Special Task Force, which is investigating the Vyapam scam, had registered an FIR against Yadav and 100 others in the scam, including Shailesh, who allegedly accepted bribes by promising jobs to teachers.

Police said the exact cause of the death was not known immediately.

"We have got information that Shailesh Yadav, aged about 50, died at the official residence of MP governor Ram Naresh Yadav at Mall Avenue locality here," said Gautampalli police station in-charge Vidrendra Bahadur Singh.
Shailesh's name had cropped up in the multi-crore Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board or Vyapam scam, for allegedly fixing the recruitment of 10 candidates as Grade III teachers.

Ram Naresh Yadav, who was appointed Madhya Pradesh governor under the Manmohan government in 2011, was under tremendous pressure to resign from gubernatorial office after the Madhya Pradesh STF sent out a notice for Shailesh's arrest to the Governor House in Bhopal. The governor's staff responded by saying that Shailesh did not live there.

Soon afterwards, sources say, fearing arrest, Shailesh fled from MP which is a BJP-ruled state under chief minister Shivraj Chauhan. He had been staying at the Mall Avenue house since then.

"It's a natural death," former UP Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi told reporters at the Yadavs' residence here. He was suffering from extremely high BP and had very high blood sugar, she added.

A doctor who had attended on him told dna that Shailesh was under depression and was hooked to tranquilisers. His mother, the MP governor's wife, had also died only recently.

Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav, UP CM Akhilesh Yadav and a host of leaders from all parties, ministers and hundreds of Congressmen flocked to console the grief stricken family throughout the day.
