Firing fresh salvos at AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala, former chief minister and AIADMK's rebel camp leader O Panneerselvam alleged on Friday that several attempts to take Jayalalithaa abroad for treatment were prevented by her.

"I, along with senior ministers, suggested that Amma should be taken abroad to England and the US for treatment. We also spoke to doctors in the hospital to find out whether she was fit to travel abroad. They said it was possible, but permission was not given. We were told she is improving. She was not ailing for a long time. She died suddenly," Panneerselvam said addressing his party office bearers from neighbouring Kancheepuram district.

Recalling various developments in the run-up to his rebellion against Saiskala on February 7 at Jayalalithaa's memorial, he said that after doubts raised by the public and former Speaker PH Pandian on Amma's death, he spoke to some doctors who had treated her in the hospital on the kind of treatment provided to her. "It was only after this that I decided to come out and speak against Sasikala and her family," he said.

He also demanded a CBI-monitored probe to put all doubts to rest. "Until then, our fight for justice will continue. As part of it, we are going to sit on a hunger strike on March 8," he said.

On February 28, a team of MPs supporting the Panneerselvam camp led by Rajya Sabha MPV Maitreyan met President Pranab Mukherjee and demanded a probe into the late chief minister's death. A team of doctors headed by UK based intensivist Dr Richard Beale who treated Jayalalithaa said that she died of sudden cardiac arrest after showing good signs of recovery.
