The student of Visva-Bharati University, who was allegedly molested and sexually harassed by three of her seniors, could not record her statement in front of a magistrate as she is unwell. The girl, who hails from Sikkim, is undergoing treatment at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital (BMCH). The girl is undergoing treatment and her condition is stable. The doctors carried out an ultra-sonography on her. A six-member team of doctors is treating her," Medical Superintendent and vice-principal of BMCH, Dr Utpal Dan, said.

She was referred to BMCH from Suri Sadar Hospital near Visva-Bharati as she needed special care, he said. The girl had agreed to record her statement under section 164 of IPC in front of the magistrate when she met the Bolpur SDPO Suryaprasad Yadav with her parents yesterday to lodge the complaint against the three accused. Inspector General of Police (Western Range), Siddhinath Gupta held a meeting with local police officers this morning to discuss the case.

The girl had complained to the principal of Kala Bhavan, where she is a second year student, alleging that the three accused had recorded some obscene pictures with their mobile phones and threatened to blackmail her with those. She had filed the complaint on August 28 and had left the campus with her father after meeting VB vice-chancellor Susanta Dutta Gupta the next day.

The VC on Thursday held a meeting with the heads of various departments, senior professors and members of the university's decision making body, Executive Council. Sushavan Banerjee, a member of the Executive Council, told PTI that the VC had asked all teachers to remain alert and stop such incidents from happening. "He also stressed on improving the relations between the students and teachers in the university campus," he said.
