Villagers on Friday put up blockade on Chatarpur-Japla Road in Palamau district after a 22-year-old woman and a newborn child died in a private nursing home, the police said. They demanded immediate arrest of the accused.

The nursing home has been sealed after an FIR against four persons including the owner was registered on the basis of the statement of the victim's father, Virendra Ram. The woman Rambha Devi was admitted in the nursing home on Wednesday for delivery but died along with the newborn allegedly due to negligence of the doctors on Thursday night, family members said.

The family members and friends of the victim ransacked the nursing home after the child was found locked in a room. The body of the child was recovered after the door of the room was broken open, they said. It has not yet been ascertained whether the child was a still-born or died soon after the birth, the police said. Sub-divisional Magistrate, Udaykant Pathak said the accused persons including a nurse were at large.
