The Ethics Committee on Monday discussed liquor baron Vijay Mallya issue and came to a conclusion that his Rajya Sabha membership should be cancelled.

"Ethics Committee meeting reached the conclusion that Vijay Mallya's RS membership should be cancelled," said Karan Singh, Chairman Ethics Committee of Rajya Sabha.

The committee has proposed to give Mallya one week time to respond so that he can say what he wants.

"Given him time so the procedure can be followed, but strictly of view that Vijay Mallya's RS membership should be cancelled," said Sharad Yadav.

The consortium of banks also filed a response to Mallya's affidavit to Supreme Court on Monday.

"Mallya not disclosing overseas assets indicate lack of his bonafide," banks told Supreme Court.

Banks said that disclosure of assets by Vijay Mallya and his family are very significant to recover dues.

"Non-disclosure by Mallya doesn't enable banks to ascertain his ability to repay," said banks.

Banks also informed SC that they have nothing to do with Mallya's claim that due to government's action he can't appear personally.

The matter has been adjourned to heard on Tuesday by the Supreme Court.

Vijay Mallya had last week said that banks have no right to ask him to disclose his assets.

On the suspension of his passport, Mallya had said, "Unseemly haste in suspending passport even before issuing a showcause notice and issuing a NBW are a part of unfair media trial."
