Vijay Diwas was celebrated with military decorum on December 16, 2018, at Jaipur Military Station. Lieutenant General Cherish Mathson, Army Commander of Sapta Shakti Command, paid tributes to martyrs by laying a wreath at Prerna Sthal in a solemn ceremony. He greeted all ranks of the Command on the occasion and exhorted them to remain vigilant as custodians of security and territorial integrity of our nation.

Vijay Diwas (Victory Day) is celebrated on December 16 every year to commemorate India's decisive military victory over Pakistan in 1971, which resulted in the unilateral surrender of the Pakistan Army and the consequent formation of Bangladesh. Pakistani air strikes on 11 Indian airbases on December 3, 1971, compelled India into a two-front war, both in the Western and Eastern sectors. After a decisive 13 days war, on December 16. 1971, the Indian Army emerged victorious, forcing Lieutenant General AAK Niazi, Commander of the Pakistani Armed Forces in erstwhile East Pakistan, along with 93000 Pakistani troops to surrender to the Indian Army.

Remembered by the masses as the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971, the military confrontation started during the Liberation war of East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, from December 3, 1971, to December 16, 1971, when it ended with the fall of Dhaka. The Indian Forces, fighting the war on the side of Bengali Nationalist Forces, ensured the decisive victory in the war which went down in the history as one of the shortest wars.
