VHP leader Pravin Togadia barred from addressing meeting in Guwahati

Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Praveen Togadia was not allowed to address a VHP meeting in Guwahati on Thursday nor a recording of his speech played over microphone as the police clamped Section 144 CrPC.

Guwahati Police Commissioner Jyotirmoy Chakraborty ordered imposition of the prohibitory order and directed Togadia not to attend or address the VHP meeting in the city.

Togadia, however, visited the VHP office at Ulubari area of the city and Kamakhya temple, Chakraborty said. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi speaking to the media on the sidelines of a meeting said Togadia would not be allowed to create a situation in the state.

"Many people coming in buses from far off places to attend the meeting were turned back by police from entering the city."
