In their attempt to build pressure on the Centre for construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has now involved foreign nationals of Indian origin. A delegation of over 100 NRIs are currently in the country to discuss construction of the temple with top leaders in the BJP government.

According to sources, they have already met BJP chief Amit Shah in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow. Adityanath hosted the delegation in CM's residence on Saturday after which the visitors also went for a visit to Ayodhya to pay their respects at the disputed site.

The delegation represents people from around two dozen countries including Germany, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, China and Hongkong. They are associated with Sangh Parivar directly or indirectly. Some are also office-bearers of RSS in their respective countries.

"These people who have come from various countries met with senior office-bearers of VHP before proceeding for Ayodhya. They have told us that they feel more strongly for the construction of Ram temple than people here in India. They might not be living in India but they are strongly connected to their roots and want the nation to progress in the correct direction," Vinod Bansal, national spokesperson of VHP said.

"We have come here to register our opinion on the issue as we all have our roots in India and feel strongly connected. We want the Ram temple constructed, now that there is a conducive environment for it in the country and the opposing voices have also started subsiding," said one of the visitors, who is a member of delegation.

The VHP, which has been building momentum for construction of Ram mandir in Ayodhya, is also organising a meeting of more than 200 saints including the Shankaracharyas in Haridwar in the coming days to discuss the temple issue. The meet is called a meeting of the 'Margdarshak mandal'.

Analysis

The VHP wants to convey that even Indians abroad are keenly awaiting governmental action on the issue.
Modi government, too, is keen on an out-of-the-court settlement though it could prove to be a long haul.
