A Jodhpur trial court today awarded life imprisonment to self-styled godman Asaram for raping a teenager in 2013. The special court for SC/ST cases pronounced the verdict in the courtroom in the Jodhpur Central Jail premises where 77-year-old Asaram is currently lodged.

The victim, a resident of Shahajahanpur in Uttar Pradesh, was studying at the godman's ashram at Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh. She was called to Manai ashram near Jodhpur on the pretext of exorcism.
