Voters to the assembly polls were already complaining of the cap on LPG cylinders when the government announced a Rs26 hike in LPG cost.

The recently-designated Oil and Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily has put the recent hike in LPG cylinder prices within 12 hours of announcing the same. In fact, the ministry has decided to actively regulate the LPG prices from now on.

However, the move has left poll watchers wondering if the UPA-led government's move is aimed at placating the voters in Himachal Pradesh. Voters to the assembly polls were already complaining of the cap on LPG cylinders when the government announced a Rs26 hike in the non-subsidised LPG cost.

It may be noted that only days ago, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi introduced induction cookers as a solution to the Congress's hike in petrol prices.
