Strike of cleaning staff demanding hike in salary at Mody University in Laxmangarh of Jhunjhunu has become a big problem for the management and student at the University. Due to the strike, cleaning services at the campus, mainly in the hostels shattered badly. Considering the chaos in the University, the management has declared ‘special leave’ for students. Also, exams and placements at the campus have also been postponed.

Cleaning staff at the University is on strike for last five days, this strike has turned hostels into hell and it is affecting student’s health now. “Bathrooms at our hostels are so filthy now that it has become almost impossible to stay here,” a student from the University told DNA on the account of anonymity.

“One student living in hostel number 12-S-1 has fallen ill recently, doctors said she got infected by UTI (urinary infection),” she added.

A notice in the university says that “due to current issues arising out of the strike by the cleaning staff, and in the interest of the health and hygiene of the students, management has decided to grant special leave from August 30 to all students who are desirous of temporarily returning home.”

It is worth mentioning that students at the University also came in the support of cleaning staff.

A couple of round of talks between cleaning staff and management produced no result. Recent move to declare leave and sending students to their homes is being considered as a part of the strategy from University management to dilute the impact of the strike.
