CBI, along with the Income Tax department, has completed valuation of four plush properties allegedly belonging to former Noida Chief Engineer Yadav Singh who has been arrested in connection with a corruption case.

The probe agency has informed CBI special judge G Sridevi that Singh failed to explain how he signed around 1,280 contracts amounting to Rs 950 crore in a span of eight days in November 2014 for which his questioning was needed. The court has granted six days of police custody of Singh to the agency, CBI press information officer R K Gaur said.

Uttar Pradesh Police which has brushed aside corruption allegations against Singh and filed a closure report today put up tight security arrangements around the court barring mediapersons from entering the premises when the suspended Engineer was brought to the court at 4.15 PM. Kavinagar SHO Ashok Shishodia said policemen from two police stations were deployed in the court premises under the supervision of senior officials.

Agency sources said CBI has identified through multiple sources 39 immovable assets of Singh and his family which are estimated to be worth hundreds of crores. These include bungalows, agricultural land, flats and factories in Agra, Aligarh, Noida and Jewar in Greater Noida.

Among these 39 immovable assets, documents related to six clearly show alleged ownership of Singh and family members and out of them, valuation of four - three houses and one factory - has been completed in a joint exercise with the Income Tax department. The report is awaited, they said.

Massive investments have allegedly been made by Singh in number of companies in which his family members - wife, daughter and son - were directors, the sources claimed. They said seven such companies which include three companies in which Singh's associate Rajinder Maocha has interests, are being probed by it.

"The allegations levelled in the FIR were that the then Chief Engineer...entered into criminal conspiracy with unknown private persons/firms and awarded various contracts without following laid down procedures and thereby caused undue pecuniary gains to the tune of crores of rupees to private firms and himself. After investigation, the local police submitted a closure report which was accepted on April 27, 2014 by the court of Special Judge, Gautam Budha Nagar (UP)," CBI has said in a statement after registering the FIR.
