A group of around 24 newly infiltrated Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists is giving sleepless nights to security forces in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
Security forces have sounded a high alert across the valley after intelligence inputs suggested that the terrorists are planning attacks on the eve of Jung-e-Badr (the battle of Badr in the Islamic history) which falls of the 17th of Ramzan.
According to intelligence reports, nearly two dozen JeM ultras have managed to sneak in from Pakistan through Pir Panjal ranges and other areas along the Line of Control.
Sources said the terrorists have split into small groups and settled in South Kashmir areas such as Shopian, Pulwama, Tral and Awantipora.
After the killing of top Jaish commanders, including Noor Mohammad Tantray, alias Noor Trali, and Mufti Waqas, JeM's strength had taken a big hit in the Valley, particularly south Kashmir.
Sources said the new reinforcements from Pakistan have strengthened the group once again, sending alarm bells ringing in security establishments.
"The presence of terrorists are being noticed here and there," said Dr Shesh Paul Vaid, Director General of Police, J&K.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Pulwama, Mohammad Aslam told DNA: "a movement of around eight to 10 terrorists A confidential intelligence memo accessed by DNA states that in view of the forthcoming Jung-e-Badr on June 2, there is very high possibility of a fidayeen attack, and hit-and-run attacks on June 1 and 3.
"During these 3-4 days, officer will command and supervise area-domination patrol. Range Quick Action Teams and Unit Quick Action Teams to remain out dominating range and unit area of responsibility. Cluster drill should be activated," reads the memo.
Credible intelligence, the memo notes, indicates that ultras might carry out attacks on VIP colonies, minatory pickets, police establishments, Central Armed Police Force, armed establishments, etc., and along the national highway. "All field formations be advised to maintain highest state of alert around their respective camp locations round the clock. Matter is extremely urgent," reads the memo.
