What's Valentine's Day? It is simply a day of love or there is more to it than just a days celebration?

Valentine's Day is not the only day wherein people express their love, to build up to the D-day there are gestures marked for each day of the week leading to Valentine's Day. The Valentine's week celebration begins from February 7 and goes on till February 14.

But, the actual American tradition of sending valentines greeting originated in Mount Holyoke College in 1847.

Esther Howland (1828-1904) graduated from Mount Holyoke Female Seminary in 1847, she was inspired by an ornate English valentine sent to her by a family friend to create her own elaborate renditions of the greeting card. Each year, the Mount Holyoke Archives and Special Collections displays its collection of valentines in honour of the Worcester, Ma., native.

So, let's take forward the tradition that was initially introduced by celebrating Valentine's week.

Here are the different days of Valentine’s week and their importance:

1. Rose Day - February 7

When you want to express your love for someone, the easiest way is to gift them a rose which would convey your feeling even without words. The colour of each rose stands for the relationship you would want to have with your loved one. A red rose stands for love, white signifies purity and innocence, yellow is for friendship, pink is for admiration, orange means passion and lavender is for love-at-first-sight.
