Vajpayee's birthplace Gwalior erupts in joy and celebrations

Gwalior celebrated when former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee recieved his Bharat Ratna.

Gwalior, the birthplace of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee erupted in joy and celebrations on Friday after he was awarded the Bharat Ratna. Vajpayee did his schooling from Saraswati Shishu Mandir and Gorkhi Bara, after which he graduated from the then Victoria College, which is now called the Laxmi Bai College.

An event was also organised at Maharajbada on Friday where Vajpayee used to deliver his historic speeches in his trademark style. The Gorkhi school which Vajpayee had attended, was lit up in honour of its brightest student.

Celebrations are also on at his residence in Kamal Singh Ka Bagh area where at present, a computer centre is being run by his relatives. Meanwhile, local MP and Union Minister for Steel and Mines Narendra Singh Tomar termed the development as "historic" and "a matter of honour" for Madhya Pradesh and Gwalior. "It is a matter of pride for Madhya Pradesh, especially Gwalior. Atalji had always preached the politics of development in the country," Tomar said, congratulating Vajpayee for receiving the Bharat Ratna.
