The Vadodara police have managed to track down the prime suspect in the murder of a Class IX student, whose body was found in a toilet in a government-run school.

According to an Indian Express report, the suspect was traced to Valsad and brought to Vadodara for questioning. The police had recovered a bag containing seven sharp-edged weapons and a liquid mixture of chilli powder from a terrace adjacent to the school building on Friday, believed to belong to the accused.

The police have also sought the help of an NGO to help in the questioning, as the accused is a minor.

On Friday, a student spotted the body of Dev Kishan Tadvi, 14, in the boys' loo on the first floor of Shree Bharti School and alerted the teachers, prompting the staff to call the police. Dev had been slashed at least 10 times, they said.

"The police recovered a bag lying near a temple adjoining the school. It had a sword and a bottle of water containing chilli powder. We suspect that the accused threw the bag from the terrace of the school after killing the teen," Said RS Bhagora, deputy commissioner of police, while speaking to DNA.

Sources said Dev had got into a fight with a Class 10 student two days ago. "The bag recovered from the temple belongs to the 10th standard student of the same school, who is absconding right now," said Bhagora.

Referring to CCTV footage, sources told DNA, the student apparently killed Dev, while one of his friends kept a watch outside the washroom.

Last September, the country was stunned after a seven-year-old boy was found with his throat slit at the Ryan International School in Gurgaon. While the police initially arrested a bus conductor on suspicion, the Central Bureau of Investigation later found that victim Pradyumn Thakur had been killed by another student in his bid to get the exams cancelled and postpone a parent-teacher meeting in the school.
