A fire broke out at a cracker shop in Rustampura village of Vadodara district, Gujarat on Friday evening, leaving at least 8 dead and several people injured.

Fire engines rushed to the spot to douse the flames. A police team is also at the spot. The injured have been shifted to a hospital.

Vadodara (rural) SP Saurabh Tolumbia told PTI that the fire started at a cracker shop and spread to the adjoining cracker shops and residential structures. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

This is the second tragedy in the run up to Diwali. Last week at least nine people were killed and dozens injured after a massive fire engulfed a firecracker factory and godown in Tamil Nadu's Sivakasi town.
