Asking the opposition party to save it from becoming an exercise in fault-finding, Rawat advised it to compare the condition of slide zones on the route to how they were during the party's own tenure.
"My BJP friends are excitedly announcing that they will assess preparations for the yatra by visiting chardham roads themselves. All I want is they should do it in a positive frame of mind.
"They should compare the condition of roads especially the slide-prone stretches like Sirobagad and Lambagad to how they were during BJP's own tenure," Rawat told reporters.
Alleging that slide prone areas like Lambagad were in a "horrible" shape during BJP's tenure, the Chief Minister said due to frequent landslides in Lambagad, yatra to Badrinath was disrupted at least eleven times when Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri was Union Minister for Road and Surface Transport at the Centre during Vajpayee's time.
There is no harm in taking stock of preparations for the forthcoming pilgrimage but it should be done in a neutral and non-partisan manner, he said.
"We have put things into place on the yatra route against heavy odds like the trail of devastation left in the wake of 2013 deluge, difficult high altitude terrain and vagaries of the weather and our endeavour should be appreciated," he said.
Main opposition BJP in Uttarakhand had on Thursday said it will send its MLAs on a tour of areas close to the four Himalayan shrines to take stock of the condition of roads and other arrangements for devotees on chardham route.
Four teams consisting of party MLAs including Harabans Kapoor, Madan Kaushik and Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Ajay Bhatt will visit areas surrounding the famous Himalayan shrines between April 17-19 to find out whether preparations in view of the annual pilgrimage were up to the mark, Pradesh BJP chief Tirath Singh Rawat had told reporters.
He had also said that the BJP teams will submit their report on the condition of chardham preparations to Governor K K Paul, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and also to President Pranab Mukherjee.
Chardham Yatra begins on April 21 this year with the opening of the sacred portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri.
The portals of Kedarnath and Badrinath, the other two temples on the chardham circuit are scheduled to reopen after winter break on April 24 and 26 respectively.
