Uttar Pradesh: Youth beaten to death by sand mafia

A youth was beaten to death allegedly by some members of the sand mafia in Faridabad, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place on Tuesday and the victim has been identified as one Devendra.

According to a complaint filed by the brother of the victim, Subhash Chand, who works with a transport company, two days ago, there was some dispute between him (Chand) and a group of some persons, associated with sand mining, a police spokesperson said.

The dispute was over passage of sand-carrying trucks in front of the transport company. Asking to settle the issue, two persons from the same group, later came to Chand's house and took away his brother with them on the pretext of signing an agreement, police said.

Later he was taken to a field and beaten up badly with sticks by a group of persons. By the time Chand learned of the incident and rushed to the field, Devendra had died, the spokesperson said. Based on the complaint, an FIR has been lodged against 12 persons including four of the victim's friend, the spokesperson said.
