The three Maulvis, identified as Gulzar, Israr, and Abrar of Chohlada village in Baghpat, had boarded a night train from Delhi to Baghapt to return home on Wednesday. They had a verbal duel with few youth in the train who thrashed them in the moving train with iron rods and subsequently threw them out when train reached near Amhaida Railway Station.

Injured clerics, somehow, managed to reach the police station and lodged a case against six unidentified persons. The police have registered a case and sent them to a hospital for medical check-up.

The incident sparked a widespread protest and agitated members of the minority community reached the Amhaida Railway Station to stage a demonstration. They also gheraoed the Amhaida police station demanding immediate arrest of the assailants.

“We were sitting quietly on the train when two youth asked us to vacate the seat. When we protested they closed the doors and called their friends and started beating us. One of them hit us with an iron rod on our heads. We started bleeding profusely. Later, they threw us when train reached near Amhaida Railway Station,” said Israr.

“We have handed over the case to the GRP since it came under their jurisdiction. The injured victims have been given first aid at the hospital,” said the Jaiprakash Singh, the Superintendent of Police, Baghpat. The SP, however, denied that they were thrown out of the moving train. “They had a tiff with few youth who beat them and forcibly made them get down at the Amhaida station,” said the SP.
