The Yogi Adityanath government is likely to present what many claim to be the biggest ever budget worth for Uttar Pradesh. Sources say Rs 4 lakh crore is the amount allotted during the budget session beginning Thursday.

It would be the second budget presented by the Adityanath government. Last year, the BJP government presented a budget worth Rs 3.84 lakh crore, which was over 11% of the last budget that was worth Rs 3.46 lakh crore presented by then Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

State Finance minister Rajesh Agarwal will present the second budget of the Yogi government on February 16.

Even though an all-party meeting was held on Wednesday and opposition assured cooperation in running the session smoothly, the Samajwadi Party, BSP and the Congress are set to rake up Kasganj communal violence and fake encounter issues to grill the government.

“We will certainly raise the Kasganj communal violence, fake encounters and deteriorating law and order issues. Innocent members of minority community are being targeted and forced to live in fear under the BJP regime. We will take up these issues along with plight of potato growers and farmers during the budget session,” said Leader of opposition in UP Assembly Ram Govind Chowdhary.

The budget session will begin with the address of the Governor Ram Naik to the joint session of the State Legislature on Thursday. The Speaker H.N. Dixit has warned to expel members disrupting the governor’s joint address. During the last joint address, the opposition had created a ruckus throwing paper missiles etc to disrupt governor’s address.

Instead of a month, the second budget will have only 19 sittings due to other engagements and Holi Festival. After tabling of the budget on February 16, the session would be adjourned for nine days due to much-publicised two-day UP Investors’ Summit on Februray 21-22 which will be opened by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then ‘Lathmaar Holi Celebration’ of entire Yogi Cabinet in Mathura-Vrindavan from February 22 to 24.

The budget session will begin again on February 26 and adjourned between March 1 and 4 for Holi festival celebrations. As many as half a dozen amendment Bills would be tabled during the budget session for passing. A three-tier security arrangement is being made with commandos from the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) manning the inner ring of the security.
