Uttar Pradesh: Journalist shot dead in Sultanpur; CM Akhilesh Yadav orders probe

A journalist was on Satuday shot dead allegedly by some unidentified persons in Gosaiganj area here, police said.

Karun Mishra (28) was shot by three unidentified persons near Katka Bazar when he was going somewhere on a motorcycle, they said.

He was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead, police said.

Police is probing the matter. No arrests have so far been made in this connection.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the family of the journalist.

He also expressed deep sorrow and prayed for peace for the departed soul, an official release said.

Yadav directed the district officials concerned to ensure arrest of the culprits at the earliest, the release said.

He directed the Director General of Police to apprise him about its developments and told the District Magistrate of Sultanpur to monitor the case, it added.
