The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday reiterated its resolve to ensure adequate power supply in rural and urban areas by 2016. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that his government is committed to providing 24-hour electric supply in cities, 22 hours at district headquarters and 16 hours in rural areas by October 2016.

Yadav claimed that no other government has been able to do as much as his government has done in three years as far as welfare works are concerned. "The government has fulfilled all the promises made by it in the elections but the opposition is continuously targeting it all the time as they are not happy with it," Yadav said while laying the foundation stone of power sub stations worth Rs 3,993 crore in the old city area here.

The chief minister said that besides the urban areas, his government was also paying attention to the development of the rural areas. He said the state government was aware that the tourism potential of Lucknow has not been fully exploited and is working towards improving the facilities to attract more tourists.
