Uttar Pradesh: 11 coaches of Lokmanya Tilak Superfast Express derail at Unnao; no casualties reported

Passengers of Lucknow-bound 22121 Lokmanya Tilak Superfast Express train had narrow escape when 11 of its bogies derailed near Unnao, about 60 kms from the state Capital Lucknow.

“No one sustained any injury in the derailment,” said Neha Pandey, SSP Unnao.

Senior Railway authorities have rushed to the derailment site to make alternative arrangements for passengers to reach their final destinations. An inquiry has been ordered into the derailment by the Railways to look into the causes.

A team of UP Anti-Terrorist Squad has also been rushed to the spot.

“Our AC II compartment suddenly got a big jerk and it dragged to more than 100 metres before coming to a screeching halt. It was scary,” said A. Katiyar, a passenger who was returning from Mumbai along with his family.  

What led to the derailment was not immediately known.

Though the railways authorities claimed that they had made arrangements for water and transportation for the passengers but many of the passengers complained that inadequate arrangements were made and they had to hire private taxis to start for Lucknow.
