An elderly couple, who had recently moved from the US and settle down in India, was found murdered at their bungalow in Vangaon. Police suspect robbery as the motive for the crime.

The deceased, Naushir Irani, 76 and wife Nargis Irani, 74, were found dead in their bungalow at Kotim in Vangaon, around 140 kms from Mumbai. The maid arrived in the morning to find that the duo were killed, the house ransacked and valuables missing.

A Vangaon police official informed: "We rushed to the spot as soon as we were informed about the incident, around 10:30 am. The duo lived at a sprawling bungalow that has a chiku and coconut orchard on its premises. They had been living there since the past two months, after returning from America."

Elaborating on how the couple was murdered, the official said: "Navshir suffered head injuries caused with a sharp weapon, while Nargis had injuries on the throat. We suspect theft as the motive behind their murder, but are investigating the case through all angles, including property."

The police have registered a case under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 460 (housebreaking). The case has been investigated by Vijaykant Sagar, deputy superintendent of police, Boisar division.
