The US has raised concerns over Pakistan’s mainstreaming terror, in a big development just before the July 25 national elections.

In an exclusive comment to WION, the US State Department has said, “We have repeatedly expressed our concerns to the Pakistani government about LeT... the participation of LeT-affiliated individuals in the elections.”

LeT founder and Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed had initially tried to contest the elections via Milli Muslim League (MML) but the party wasn’t granted registration by Pakitan’s election commission.

The UN Security Council’s updated list of terrorists and militant groups has 139 entries from Pakistan alone, including LeT. But more than 200 of Saeed’s supporters are contesting the elections via another little-known party — Allah O Akbar Tehreek.

Meanwhile, former PM Nawaz Sharif, his daughter and son-in-law appealed against conviction in a corruption case.
